When Convoys Were Cool

There was a really weird time in the mid 1970s when the most bizarre things were considered “cool.”

Flared jeans.

Peacock-blue eye-shadow.

C.B. radios.

What?

C.B. radios, you say?

Yes. C.B. radios.

Short for Citizen Band, the C.B. radio was at its peak in the mid-70s, thanks to the novelty-turned-superhit song, "Convoy.”

Perhaps a sign of the times and a reminder how far we’ve come with technology, the CB radio was the way to connect to other drivers when rolling along the highway. Used primarily by long-haul truckers who wanted to keep themselves from boredom (or sleep) while driving, CB radios became the must-have piece of technology back in the day.
