The young’ uns may not believe it but back in the day, smoking cigarettes was not only totally fine (yes, Mad Men scenarios of scotch and cigarettes at 9am were real), but encouraged. And who was being encouraged to smoke? Well, kids, of course!

Like mother, like daughter; like father, like son. Get ‘em early, I guess?

This was the POV of the candy manufacturers, clearly, as they marketed Popeye Candy Cigarettes among other nicotine brands.
