The bloom of youth…may it forever last…
Isn’t it funny how people don’t age in our memories?
Think about your childhood best friend, your favourite teacher, your first love. They remain static in our minds; as youthful and spry as ever.
Yet we know that this is not reality. We know that all things change, all living things age, and nothing last forever, particularly the elusive youth we so crave.
We are often reminded of this fact when we run into someone from our past after many years. Of course, “run in” means many things in this digital age, including but not limited to scrolling a former friend’s Facebook page or similar social media accounts. The fact of the matter is that we increasingly find ourselves jarred by the sight of this person who, for the most part, doesn’t resemble much of their previous self. The lines on their faces are a shock, as is in many cases, the shock of grey or white hair.
