The iPod is Now Dead. Are We Feeling Old Yet?
Yet another obsolete device that reminds us of the passing of time
A death, even anticipated, is never easy.
This past week, we learned that the iPod is no longer going to be produced.
It’s dead.
Gone.
Expired.
Or obsolete - like so many other technologies that we’ve ditched in order to pursue the latest, newest, shiniest thing.
I guess this feeling of melancholy can only be understood by those who have seen more than a few iterations of what seems to be the latest and greatest technology at the time, only to have it unceremoniously discarded for yet another advance into the future.
I’m sure that many a music fan bemoaned the changing of the musical guard upon the revelation of a newer, less clunky and better sounding machine that would replace the old Victrola.
When 78rpms were just too fast for the more modern and laid back consumer, technology rose to the occasion. No more cranking for content. There was a new kid on the block.
