Those of us of a certain age spent many a childhood day here, even if it was only through the television screen.
Regardless of whether or not you dig the decor, it was de rigueur back in the day.
Basements and recreation (rec) rooms were uninhabitable if they didn’t have the requisite faux wood wall covering, preferably accented with a motif that was, perhaps, avocado, orange or lime green.
Paneling was cheap. Really cheap. It took the term “cheap and cheerful” to a whole new level.
A staple of 1970s living, many a basement and den sported this must-have décor, which through today’s lens, is hard to believe. Yet having a comfortably panelled basement indicated a homey, welcoming feel for those who dared to enter.
