DISCUSSION: Were You a Latchkey Kid?

Did you let yourself in after school?

I had a key around my neck and let myself in at home, after school, to an empty house. Did you?

It seems strange through today’s lens: the thought of an elementary school-aged child tasked with such responsibility, but it’s just what we did - no big deal.

Would you allow your kids to do it today if you were a parent of elementary aged kids? Why or why not? Is the world a scarier and more dangerous place today than it was then, or are we just more paranoid?
