And there was always someone taking their time we you really needed to make a call, or you couldn't find the right change: ten cents, then 25 and finally $1. Sometimes people would plan to call a booth with the arrangement that there friend would be there to take the call. That arrangement was used in films quite a bit as well. And who could forget the excitement of finally finding a booth to make a call, only to see it was out of order. Somehow, the handset was always dangling off the hook...
