I remember all of these. What a bizarre set of ideas! I really like the clip with Arnold. The fact that the young woman couldn't describe "hanky panky" was so typical of America at that time. Sad really. I wonder what Arnold, being an Austrian, thought of their hesitance to answer. I think they handed them the wrong skis too. I was wondering if Arnold was going to carry the skis for her and he did. Seeing those two, side by side, shows you how big Arnold was. The cruelty of the gong show didn't keep away contestants, which is interesting. They must have known they were probably going to get gonged and embarrassed yet hey persevered. The newlywed show may have done those couples a favour in reconsidering their marriage, good or bad. I remember the restraint when one of the couple gave a really stupid answer to the question. It would have been funny to hear exactly what they were thinking.

I think The Gong Show was a sociological and psychological experiment to see how humans would behave under certain circumstances. It didn't disappoint. We learned that some people will do anything for fame.

They were ALL classics! Lol!

For me, it was the celebrity judges that were the best part of 70s/80s game shows. They were irreverent and naughty and seemed to be unbothered by censorship. It was a hoot! I also liked most of the hosts: Gene Rayburn, Bob Eubanks, and my favorite, Bert Convy!

So much of what was said on those shows would not fly today, and that’s too bad. There was a silliness to them that I miss.

The Gong Show was memorable but also kind of painful to watch. I remember groaning every time the Unknown comic walked out. 🙄

Good or bad, I’m happy to have been a kid during this classic age of television. 😊

You and me both and yes - there was an irreverence for everything that is missing in TV programming today. The "celebrity" panelists were always funny to me because I had no idea who they were. Like Jaye P. Morgan?? Who was she?😂 Many of those panelists were c-list celebrities at best! That's probably why they didn't care about getting bleeped or censored!
